Third Grade: The third grade has been working on multiplying by 9 and 4. They have been using their rules to multiply fluently. It has been great to see their progress through their multiplication facts and connecting them to division. They have also been working a lot with fractions, placing them on number lines, and comparing them. Fourth Grade: The fourth grade is working on dividing 3 digit numbers by 1 digit. They are working hard to use their understanding of making equal groups. It is forcing them to use their multiplication facts to work backwards through the problem. Ask them how to solve a problem like this! Fifth Grade: The fifth grade has been doing really well with adding fractions with different denominators! They have found "tricks" to help them, which really means they are finding more efficient ways to figure out the answer. They also started adding and subtracting mixed numbers. They have grown in their math thinking so much!!

This is a hard skill for students to learn, but they are doing a fabulous job. We are now beginning to find elapsed time. 4th Grade: The fourth graders have been enjoying learning how to multiply two digits by 2 digits. They started by using the cuisenaire rods to build a model of the equations. Now they are also drawing a pictoral model along with solving using partial products. Soon the students will be multiplying using the standard algorithm. 5th Grade: In fifth grade, we have spent a lot of time working with decimal numbers. Students have learned how to perform the four operations with decimal numbers. When working with multiplication and division, students can use the inverse operation to check their work. Last week students were introduced to using short division instead of
